Resilience: New Documentary

The East Regional Library in partnership with the Exchange Family Center and others will be hosting a viewing for the new documentary, RESILIENCE.

The new documentary reveals that toxic stress can trigger hormones in the human brain and thus, in the body of children. These hormones negatively affect children and increase their risk of serious disease, homelessness, imprisonment and even premature death.

There are several showings in September. Registration for the event is required.

This is a free screening hosted by Partners for Youth Opportunity. It is open to the public. 

The film will be shown with Spanish subtitles. Following the film will be a discussion in Spanish, led by Exchange Family Center - Durham's Executive Director Rachel Galanter.

Resilience is a new documentary directed by James Redford that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and a new movement to treat and prevent toxic stress. Resilience looks at the birth of the CDC-Kaiser Permanente ACE Study and how it's spawned a movement across the U.S. It focuses on the work of pediatricians, therapists, educators and communities. It features interviews with several leaders in the ACEs movement nationally and in communities. Resilience chronicles the promising beginnings of a national movement to prevent childhood trauma, treat toxic stress, and greatly improve the health of future generations.

The film, Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope, addresses Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), their impact on health, quality of life, economics and education, and building resilience to ACEs. Research shows ACEs are common, they affect all socio-economic levels, and their impact on health and well-being is significant. Join us in viewing this highly acclaimed film to learn what ACEs are, how they increase the likelihood of disease and illness, and how together we as a community can mitigate the impact of ACEs for Durham County students and residents.

Exchange Family Center is a co host for the screening of Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope at Duke Regional Hospital.

This is a free screening and is open to the public. It will take place in the Duke Regional Hospital Auditorium.  The film will be followed by discussion led by our Executive Director, Rachel Galanter.
